Chapter 19: Gateway to the Starry Sky

Things are going downhill, Kamek has seen the perfect opportunity to end Yoshi, and he has done it. Yoshi is dead. Mario thinks he's got the culprit...

Mario jumped off to M. Para Koopa, and gave him a fiery uppercut, sending him flying up and back to the ground.

"Ouch!!! Agh.... I feel burned..." M. Para Koopa said, completely caught off guard. He tried to avoid Mario for quite a while, but he was now face to face with the man himself.

"Aren't you going to fight?! Or do you need your puny bosses over?! You're not going to get me so easy!" Mario said, ready to fight.

"But... I'm telling you! I didn't kill Yoshi! I didn't send the bosses!" M. Para Koopa said, scared.

"Stop your nonsense, and be brave!" Mario yelled and grabbed M. Para Koopa by a wing. "I have seen weak Koopas, but you must be the leader of the bunch!" he said, and chuckled.

Then, M. Para Koopa's usual attitude came back. He wasn't going to lose to Mario. And he was going to prove his point.

"Well! Be it! I'll fight!" M. Said, and freed himself from Mario. He prepared himself.

"Alright!!" both ran towards each other and started fighting. It was intense. Luigi, after putting Yoshi's body on a corner, watched, fearful. Maybe this Koopa wanted to hurt Yoshi, and that's why it's trying to defeat Mario.
Trying.
M. Para Koopa fought well, but he was no match for Mario. Shortly, Mario had him pinned to the ground.

"Looks like you did want to kill my friend. You Koopa's get more rotten by the minute!" Mario said.

"Ouch... I... I..." M. Para Koopa stuttered, wanting to admit defeat. He saw Mario slightly smirk, while still keeping his serious look.

"Admit defeat?" Mario asked.

"No!! L-look Mario, there is no need to fight! I know who did this!" M. Para Koopa replied. Instead of trying to fight Mario, he wanted to make things out peacefully.

"Aw, now you want to talk out of this, now that you're losing? I know words hit harder than punches, but this time it won't be the case. Let alone with a Koopa." Mario said.

M. Para Koopa was ready to talk when suddenly, various magic blasts surrounded him and Mario, and pushed both aside.

"Gah! What was that?!" Mario asked.

"I don't know... Please don't be what I'm thinking..." M. Para Koopa said, fearful, and stood up.

When he was about to talk, another wave of blasts hit him, leaving him badly hurt. Mario looked, surprised. He wanted to see what was going on.

"What the..." He said.

"No.... He's here..." M. Para Koopa said, still standing, but weakened. He knew who was attacking him.

Then, as he was going to say something, M. Para Koopa screamed in pain. Mario and Luigi just flinched, horrified.

A shadow stood behind M. Para Koopa.

"... No... ..." M. said, looked at Mario, and collapsed. Someone had stabbed him in the back of his neck.

"No way... I did it... I DID IT! HE'S DEAD! AHAHAHAHA!!! HAHAHAHA!!!" The shadow laughed like a maniac. It was Koopa. He had dreamt of finishing M. For all his jokes. When he heard Kamek's desires to also kill him, he couldn't be more lucky.

"Great job, Koopa. The duo is gone at last." Kamek said, hovering down to the floor. He grinned. He saw Yoshi and M. Para Koopa's bodies, and sighed in relief.

"M-Mario... They k-killed him t-t-too...!" Luigi said, shivering, hiding behind his brother. He was scared to no end. Mario was horrified. The 2 deaths were equally terryfing.

"Hey Kamek, the bros are here..." Koopa said, noticing Mario and Luigi.

"Let's leave them for later. Our job is done." Kamek said, and he and Koopa took off.

Mario looked. He had before his eyes, the pair of friends, dead by the hands of the Koopas.

"What will we do now... Mario..." Luigi said, worried.

"... We'll try to revive Yoshi." Mario said. He didn't know any other wizard that wasn't Kamek. Merlee and Merlon wouldn't certainly help. He told Luigi to call an ambulance to take Yoshi, while pondering a solution. He didn't want Yoshi to stay dead.

In another place...

Woah... What... What happened? I'm asking to myself. I looked around. I was in a patch of flowers, surrounded by some rocks... And, the sky was very bluish... However, stars could be seen. A bright white one, drowned out by the blue tint. I got up, and looked. I saw more patches of flowers, along with grass, and areas of dirt with craters on it. I started walking, and more things entered my view. 2 houses, one green and other blue, pipes, some tall grass... I think I know where I am! But couldn't be. Just then, a tall, rounded building got into view. It was a lighter apricot, with light blue lines, and star patterns. It had some sort of stairway to get to the top. Up there, a figure stood. It had blonde hair, and a blue dress. It was facing to another side, so I couldn't see clearly. I walked up the stairs, and the blue tint that covered the sky was just some sort of layer. Due to how tall the building was, it surpassed the layer, and I could see clearly.

I was in space, in the Gateway Galaxy?!

It couldn't be... By the time I thought, I had reached the woman in the dress. I'm pretty sure who it was...

"Hello, Yoshi." The woman called out to me.

"R-Rosalina?"

"Yes, it's me. I am deeply sorry for what happened. Kamek is such a resentful and evil soul... Even more than the King of the Koopas himself." Rosalina said, as she looked to the stars.

"But, what happened? Am I dead?" I asked her. She spoke like Kamek had killed me, and I was somehow here...

"Yes. Kamek sent the monsters, and you got outsmarted by one... The Mario Bros. Are devastated. Mario is seeking to revive you." She explained.

"Now I remember... All I recall, is that a giant, spiky red shell impaled me, and everything went black shortly after..." I said, holding back tears. I was dead...

"Don't worry... Not all is lost..." Rosalina said, in her usual, comforting voice. "Here, is where most people wind up after their games end, to decide where do they go. But, if you're willing to, there's a way you can go back to life." That last sentence gave me hope. I gladly asked what did I need to do.

"You need to go through the Trial Galaxies. Surpass their challenges, and you could reach the Star Of The Gateway." Rosalina explained.

"Star of the Gateway?"

"It's the Star that lies at the end, when you successfully trek through the Trial Galaxies. It grants a second chance to living to those who are worthy enough. It's also what keeps the cosmos as it is, much like the Grand Stars that keep my Observatory running." She finished. However, the explanation felt incomplete, like there was more to it. But I decided not to talk about that. I had my priority set.

"Alright... I'm up for it. I need to take revenge on Kamek, and fix my broken friendship." I said, confident. But Rosalina looked at me, worried.

"Revenge? You're starting to sound like that other Yoshi..."

"Who?"

"He... He was a red Yoshi, that claimed he had lived a wrong life, and he wanted to fix it. He set up for the trial galaxies, but under his breath, was only pure malevolence... Never thought I that a Yoshi could be so evil." Rosalina said, again, worried.

Could that Yoshi be... No, not possible. Just a coincidence. There are close to none mean spirited Yoshis roaming on the world.

"Oh... Well... It's not about pure revenge. It's just that you said, he's pure evil! He's always been more sinister than Bowser..." I told Rosalina. I go a long way with Kamek. He has done it all. But it'll stop.

I breathed heavily. "I accept. I'm up for the Trial Galaxies."

"Sure? Well, alright." Rosalina said, and not so far behind her, a green pipe with a Ray logo on it spawned from the ground. "Good luck."

"May the Stars be with you..." She said, before rising up and fading away, like an illusion. I walked over to the pipe. I admired the stars, bright and beautiful as always, and I jumped into the pipe, for my first test.
